Windows 7 and the Windows XP Mode – Application Integration

To ‘force’ Windows 7 to ‘accept’ applications installed inside the Windows XP Mode VM, which means list them in the Start Menu, you need to remember one important thing:

Applications that install a shortcut to the All Users (<- at the Installation procedure select always for All Users resp. Everyone) Start Menu will have their shortcut automatically published to the host machine (Windows 7) within the Virtual Windows XP Mode Applications folder. For less well-behaved applications (or ‘inbox’ applications like Internet Explorer 6), you should create a shortcut manually in ‘C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs’ and it will appear in the host Windows 7 environment.
